Maciej Janczak, has been appointed Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine as of 1st September 2023.
Mr Janczak, a career diplomat, previously occupied the post of Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. His professional experience also includes positions as Deputy Director of the United Nations and Human Rights Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland in Warsaw, Head of section at the Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York, Diplomatic Secretary at the Permanent Mission of Poland to the United Nations Office in Geneva, and officer at Department of Political Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat in New York.
Taking up Office, Mr. Janczak reiterated the Secretary General Marija Pejčinović Burić's message that :“The Action Plan “Resilience, Recover and Reconstruction” (2023-2026) has been developed in close consultation with the Ukrainian authorities. It is part of our Organisation’s contribution to the rebuilding process and recovery of the country, faced with the brutal aggression of the Russian Federation and immense destruction”.
The efforts will be directed primarily at the effective implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan and meeting the needs of Ukraine within the framework of the projects aimed at strengthening the country’s resilience and facilitating its recovery and reconstruction during the ongoing war and in the post-war context.
The Council of Europe Office in Ukraine includes a team of 66 colleagues, currently implementing 27 projects within the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine and the EU/Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance.
