14 July, 2021, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine Steen Nørlov, during his interview to UA:LVIV  told that one of the priorities of the Joint Project «EU and Council of Europe working together to support freedom of media in Ukraine», is to support public broadcasting in Ukraine and strengthen the safety of journalists.

Steen Nørlov noted that Public Broadcasting in Ukraine, during a relatively short period of its existence, has become a reliable source of unbiased information, however, Public Broadcasting in Ukraine should continue to develop and gain an even wider audience.

In addition, as noted by the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, the Project helps  to establish cooperation between the media community and law enforcement agencies in Ukraine in order to create safer conditions for journalism and effective investigation of crimes against journalists. For example, the Project recently supported a seminar for the police on the safety of journalists, as well as the creation of a special platform under auspices of the Prosecutor General’s Office to communicate with the media on the safety issues.

Steen Nørlov also reminded of the functioning of the Council of Europe Platform for the Protection of Journalism and the Safety of Journalists, which is a public space to facilitate the compilation, processing and dissemination of information on serious concerns about media freedom and safety of journalists in the Council of Europe member states. As for now there are 62 active alerts regarding threats to freedom of expression and the safety of journalists in Ukraine on the Platform.
