On April 15, 2020 an online lecture on the European Social Charter and its application in Ukraine was held for law students, lawyers, representatives of NGOs and the general public interested in the topics raised. The lecture was held by Ms Alla Fedorova, PhD in International Law, the Council of Europe consultant. The activity’s participants had an opportunity to get acquainted with the Charter itself, its principles, monitoring of the commitments implementation, as well as application of the Charter in Ukraine, inter alia by the Ukrainian courts.

During the lecture, the latest European Committee of Social Rights conclusions on accepted provisions of the articles belonging to the thematic group "Children, families and migrants" with regard to Ukraine were discussed. It's worth mentioning that the Conclusions concerned were translated into Ukrainian in the framework of the Project “Promoting Social Human Rights as a Key Factor of Sustainable Democracy in Ukraine” and are available for review at the Project’s web-page under “Publications”. The listeners of the lecture raised the issues of  ESC implementation in Ukraine and discussed with the lecturer Ms. Alla Fedorova and Ms. Siuzanna Mnatsakanian, Senior Project Officer the practice of referring to the European Social Charter and the European Committee of Social Rights case-law in the Ukrainian court decisions.

The European Social Charter is an international treaty that allows its ratification by accepting some of the Charter’s provisions.  Ukraine has ratified the European Social Charter (revised) in 2006 and accepted 74 out of 98 provisions. The non-accepted provisions and the reasoning for Ukraine were discussed among other issues raised.
