Council of Europe Office in Ukraine has joined the Radio Dictation of National Unity

On November 9, 2021, on the occasion of the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language, the XXI Radio Dictation of National Unity took place.

Steen Nørlov, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, and Galyna Smirnova, the Joint Project “EU and Council of Europe working together to support freedom of media in Ukraine”, wrote dictation in the reading room of the Vernadsky National Library together with Ukrainian celebrities, representatives of embassies and high school students.

The dictation could also be written by viewers, listeners of TV and radio channels of the Public Broadcaster, as well as subscribers of digital platforms of the Public Broadcaster.

The text of the dictation was created and dictated by the writer Yuriy Andrukhovych.

Writing a radio dictation has already become a good tradition, which continues to be developed by the Public Broadcaster. The initiative unites not only Ukrainians from all regions of Ukraine and different parts of the world, but also foreigners who study  Ukrainian language.

“Radio dictation is a popular uniting project of the Public Broadcaster with  the number of participants growing every year. I am studying Ukrainian and was happy to  join the  radio dictation today,” mentioned Steen Nørlov, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine.

Public service broadcasting is a factor in the social cohesion and unification of all individuals, groups and communities. According to the Council of Europe standards, Public service broadcasting has a special mission and vital role to play as an integral part of ensuring information pluralism and unity in society. The Public Broadcaster through the provision of publicly available comprehensive information, educational, cultural and entertainment programs serves to affirm the values of a modern democratic society (including respect for human rights, cultural differences and political pluralism).

Supporting the public broadcaster is one of the key priorities in the media sphere of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine for the period of 2018-2022.
