On 21-23 October 2026, the Council of Europe Project “Protecting the rights of Ukrainian children and ensuring child-friendly justice” in cooperation with the Prosecutor General’s Office and Prosecutors’ Training Center of Ukraine have conducted the last training session within the framework of the training programme “Professional Development Programme for Juvenile Prosecutors: Strategies for Conducting Criminal Proceedings Involving Children”.
25 prosecutors (8 men and 17 women) from 5 Ukrainian regions (Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, Lviv and Kirovohrad) participated in the programme, which consists of 4 Modules and lasted 16 days in hybrid format.
The programme supported the development of prosecutors’ professional competencies in strategic planning and in preparing for and participating in criminal proceedings involving children. It addressed how to take into account each child’s individual needs and best interests, prosecutors’ procedural responsibilities, working with evidence, risk management and effective interagency cooperation.
Positive feedback received from participants indicated that the programme helped them gain new knowledge and deepen their professional expertise, which they intend to apply in their work.
The programme was a significant contribution of the Council of Europe to strengthening the professional capacity of prosecutors to protect the rights and best interests of children at all stages of criminal proceedings.
The Council of Europe Project “Protecting the rights of Ukrainian children and ensuring child-friendly justice” is implemented by the Council of Europe in the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine ‘Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction’ for 2023-2026.
