Council of Europe and international partners discuss cooperation priorities with Ukraine’s Acting Prosecutor General

On 9 October 2026, the first donor coordination meeting with Ukraine’s newly appointed Acting Prosecutor General brought together representatives of the Office of the Prosecutor General, the Council of Europe Office in Ukraine, the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine, the EU project Pravo-Justice, European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine and the International Development Law Organization (IDLO).

The meeting marked a further step in the ongoing cooperation between the Council of Europe and the Office of the Prosecutor General. Discussions focused on shared priorities and opportunities to coordinate international support in key areas of prosecutorial reform, in line with Council of Europe standards and Ukraine’s commitments in the context of EU accession.

The participants also discussed cooperation in the investigation of war crimes, the promotion of child-friendly settings and procedures in criminal proceedings, and the strengthening of the capacity of relevant authorities to identify, collect, preserve, process and use electronic evidence, including evidence relevant to the investigation and prosecution of war crimes.

The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange views on current needs, identify common priorities and discuss how international partners can coordinate their support to strengthen prosecutorial capacity and advance reforms in Ukraine.

The Council of Europe continues to support Ukraine in strengthening the rule of law, ensuring accountability for serious violations of human rights, and bringing its criminal justice system further in line with European standards.
