On March 1, 2024, the Council of Europe joined in organizing the Round Table "Problematic Aspects of the Investigation and Adjudication of War Crimes Cases", together with the European Union Advisory Mission in Ukraine, the National School of Judges of Ukraine, and the Prosecutors Training Center of Ukraine.
The international consultant of the Council of Europe, Mr. James Johnston, served as the speaker to deliver a presentation on the theme of "Consideration of War Crimes Cases in Absentia" at the event.
The Round Table served as a platform for professional discussion and dialogue between judges and prosecutors of the Department for Combating Crimes Committed in Conditions of Armed Conflict within the Office of the Prosecutor General, representatives of the National School of Judges of Ukraine and the Prosecutors Training Center of Ukraine, as well as international experts on issues of legislative regulation, interpretation, and application of norms of criminal and criminal procedural law in the context of investigation and judicial review of cases of war crimes and gross human rights violations.
The Round Table was supported within the project "Fostering Human Rights in the Criminal Justice System in Ukraine", which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine "Resilience, Recovery, and Reconstruction" for 2023-2026.
