On April 14, representatives of the Council of Europe met with the management of the National Centre for Human Rights of Kazakhstan to reflect on the progress achieved and discuss opportunities for further co-operation.

The National Centre for Human Rights of Kazakhstan assists the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Kazakhstan in monitoring human rights, supporting legislative reforms, advancing human rights education, and fostering international collaboration.

During the discussion, the participants reviewed the progress of project activities and exchanged views on the results achieved. Based on the needs assessment carried out by the Council of Europe project in 2025, further initiatives to strengthen the operational skills of employees and promote international and European human rights standards remain a priority for future activities.

Participants emphasised opportunities to further deepen collaboration, particularly through training of the employees from regional offices of the Centre and carrying out awareness-raising campaigns on the mandate of the Commissioner among students in higher educational institutions.

The event was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Reinforcing the Institutional Capacity of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) Institution in Kazakhstan,” implemented under the Council of Europe Neighbourhood Cooperation Priorities with the Republic of Kazakhstan, and funded by Germany.
