The response addresses the numerous recommendations made in the CPT's report notably in relation to the spiralling violence and lack of safety in prisons and the inadequate safeguards to protect patients in mental health settings. The response also provides information on the action taken by the UK authorities to address the CPT recommendations concerning the treatment of persons detained by the police and the situation in immigration centres.

The Council of Europe's Committee for the Prevention of Torture and Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (CPT) has published today the response of the UK authorities to the report on the CPT's April 2016 visit to the United Kingdom.
