As Albania advances on its path to EU accession, aligning its media legislation with European standards is a critical step. In this context, the Albanian Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) took part in a capacity-building workshop focused on the transposition and implementation of the  European Media Freedom Act (EMFA) and the Digital Services Act (DSA) into its domestic legal framework.

The workshop, held under the EU and Council of Europe joint PROFREX action, brought together AMA staff, government representatives, and international experts to explore how the EMFA and DSA can be effectively integrated into domestic law. Discussions focused on improving regulatory oversight in the digital space, and ensuring transparency and editorial independence.

Participants gained in-depth knowledge of key EMFA/DSA provisions, including media ownership transparency, protection of online media content, obligations for digital platforms, and the importance of strengthening the autonomy and enforcement capacity of AMA. Practical group exercises and interactive discussions facilitated the development of a roadmap to address legislative gaps and define the next steps in the transposition process.

By the end of the workshop, AMA staff were equipped with concrete tools, comparative insights, and actionable recommendations to support Albania’s media reform efforts as part of its EU integration path. The event reaffirmed AMA’s central role in safeguarding media freedom and pluralism in the evolving audiovisual and digital environment.
