As part of the study session “Reclaiming the Narratives: Empowering Marginalised Youth through Digital Advocacy,” Elena Brodeala, Legal Advisor in the Freedom of Expression and CDMSI Division, joined young activists at the European Youth Centre Strasbourg to discuss key issues around misinformation and disinformation.
Speaking to participants from stateless, unrepresented, indigenous, and autochthonous communities, Ms Brodeala discussed the impact of information disorders on democracy and human rights, and introduced relevant Council of Europe standards and initiatives. She emphasised the importance of media and information literacy and the critical role of institutions, media, and civil society in countering disinformation and upholding freedom of expression.
The interactive session deepened young activists’ understanding of the challenges posed by misinformation and disinformation, and highlighted practical tools for building resilience and promoting trustworthy information in support of democratic participation.
