At Luxembourg Committee of Ministers meeting, Special Envoy stressed the need to address the issue of children of Ukraine

Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the situation of children of Ukraine, Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjord Gylfadóttir, has addressed the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe in Luxembourg today, stressing the need for a concerted international response.

“There will not be any justice unless the issue of Ukrainian children is properly addressed and resolved. Millions of children have been forced to flee Ukraine. How the international community - including us in the Council of Europe, as an organisation and as individual member states - respond to this situation is a test of our political will,” the Special Envoy said.

She reiterated her readiness to work together with member states and other international partners to address the plight of children of Ukraine.

The Special Envoy of the Secretary General of the Council of Europe on the situation of children of Ukraine was appointed on 5 February 2025, to serve as the focal point of the Council of Europe’s efforts to improve the situation of children of Ukraine.
