Finland will celebrate the 10th anniversary of the entry into force of the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) with a seminar organised by the Committee for Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (NAPE). The event will also mark the publication of Finland’s new national implementation plan for the convention.

The seminar will gather representatives from the Finnish Government, Parliament, national institutions, international organisations, civil society and the expert community. Discussions will reflect on a decade of progress in implementing the Convention and highlight future priorities for strengthening protection for women and girls from gender-based and domestic violence. A special commentary address will be delivered by Marja Ruotanen, Director General of the Directorate of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance of the Council of Europe, who will provide an international perspective on current and emerging trends in preventing and combating gender-based violence.
