Back Moldovan presidency highlighting unity and democratic resilience

On the occasion of the Moldovan Presidency of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, Mihai Popşoi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova has underscored the country’s firm commitment to the organisation’s core values of democracy, human rights and the rule of law, pledging unity and democratic resilience in challenging times.

The Presidency comes as the Republic of Moldova celebrates 30 years of membership in the Council of Europe. Moldova aims to strengthen European unity and reinforce the Council of Europe’s role as a pillar of stability, freedom, and justice for all its member states. It will focus on effective implementation of the Convention system, promoting democratic resilience and good governance, and advancing human rights - particularly social justice, children’s rights, and the fight against violence against women.

Other priorities include continued support for Ukraine; accountability for Russia for the war of aggression against Ukraine; the Council of Europe’s New Democratic Pact for Europe; and strengthening responses to disinformation and foreign interference.

“Moldova’s Presidency comes at a time when our continent faces profound challenges - yet also a time of renewed hope and solidarity. We are committed to making this tenure a true reflection of Moldova’s European vocation and of our shared belief that peace, cooperation, and respect for human dignity remain the strongest foundations for the future of our continent.”
