The Council of Europe will organise a conference to seek solutions to the persistent problem of overcrowding in many European prison systems.

Organised under the framework of Monaco's Presidency of the Committee of Ministers, it will bring together public authorities responsible for tackling prison overcrowding and experts to discuss its structural causes, share best practices and identify solutions in line with Council of Europe standards, particularly the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) recommendations and the European Court of Human Rights case law.
