The round table “Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe as a platform for the intercultural dialogue” was held on 29 November, 2024 in Luxembourg. It was organised by PACE's Parliamentary and Electoral Cooperation Division in collaboration with the Luxembourg delegation to PACE and the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg.
This colloquium was framed at the end of meeting of the Standing Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that brought together around 60 parliamentarians from the Council of Europe’s 46 member states.
The round table represented a momentum for celebrating the 70th anniversary of the European Cultural Convention in the framework of the Luxembourg Presidency of Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe (13 November 2024 and - 14 May 2025).
The round table was opened by Mr. Claude Wiseler, President of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg and Mr. Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and followed by a speech from Mr. Eric Thill from the Minister for Culture of Luxembourg. The programme of the colloquim included thematic and specific interventions from Mr. Andries Gryffroy, PACE rapporteur on “Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe as a platform for the intercultural dialogue”, Mrs. Meltem Önhon, Chair of the EPA Governing Board on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe and Mr. André Biever, President of the European Institute of Cultural Routes.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, in its Resolution 2488 (2023)1 - The Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe: a platform for intercultural dialogue - stressed the importance of cultural heritage for achieving greater unity between Europeans.
This round table was a perfect momentum to provide a forum for reflecting on the transformative power of Cultural Routes in promoting intercultural dialogue and fostering a sense of belonging and identity among European citizens, for promoting the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes and encourage Council of Europe member states (the EPA) and partners for democracy to join the Agreement.
