On 12 October, a workshop on the ‘Promotion of Sustainable socio-cultural tourism via cultural routes and cycling routes’ was held online as part of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region: Priority Area 3 “Culture, Tourism and People to People Contacts”.

The workshop provided room for sharing ideas and best practises on how cultural and cycling routes could be better used to bring people and places together through cultural tourism experiences. It was organized by the Danube Region Strategy Culture & Tourism organization in collaboration with Interreg – Danube Transnational Programme and the European Union.

Mr. Stefano DOMINIONI, Executive Secretary of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe (EPA) and Director of the European Institute of Cultural Routes, and Ms. Carolina Clark, Project Manager at the European Institute of Cultural Routes, presented the main features concerning the Cultural Routes certification cycle, certification criteria, procedure as well as the available fund resources for routes and best practises. The workshop also featured speakers from certified Cultural Routes, such as the Cyril and Methodius Route, the Iron Curtain Trail and the Roman Emperor’s and Danube Wine Route.
