Descripción

The Royal Palace of Caserta is a non-profit institution under the Ministry of Culture of Italy, whose purpose is the conservation, study and enhancement of the monumental complex and former royal residence consisting of the Royal Palace, the Park, the English Garden and the Caroline Aqueduct of Caserta.
The Royal Palace of Caserta was wanted by the King of Naples Charles VII, caught by a competition with the French royals and eager to donate structures to Naples that could play a role of capital city of European level. The construction of the palace begun in 1752 by King Charles, who worked closely with his architect Luigi Vanvitelli, and resulted in the largest palace erected in Europe during the 18th century.
The Royal Park (Parco Reale) – an integral part of the project presented by Luigi Vanvitelli – is inspired by the gardens of the great European residences of the time, blending the Italian tradition of the Renaissance garden with the solutions introduced at Versailles (www.europeanhistoricgardens.eu/en/portfolio-item/royal-park-caserta).
