Youth Work Policy in Europe: It’s up to us!

The European Youth Centre in Strasbourg hosted the Study session “Youth Work Policy in Europe: It’s up to us!” in cooperation with the European Confederation of Youth Clubs (ECYC) last week. The study session empowered youth workers to engage in youth policy making and use the Council of Europe’s Recommendation on Youth Work.

The activity gathered 37 youth workers from member states, who had an opportunity to exchange with Antje Rothemund, the Head of the Youth Department on ways forward to support youth work development in Europe. The youth workers understood the different possibilities how the Council of Europe’s youth policy can be used to inspire and develop the national youth policies in their countries.

The national level associations representing youth workers and youth clubs got first-hand information about the Recommendation on Youth Work and advocacy tools to promote Council of Europe's youth policy in their work context. The participants devised 17 action plans which should be implemented in the upcoming period in 22 member states. Some of these ideas were also presented during an exchange with members of the High level task force on Youth Work: Sebastian Vogt from the Advisory Council on Youth and Liva Vikmane from the European Youth Forum.
