Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset welcomed the participants to the opening session of the 13th World Forum for Democracy this morning.
Theodoros Rousopoulos, President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and Dr Jonathan Attard, Minister of Justice and Construction Sector Reform also addressed their welcome words at the opening Session as well as the French Government, the City of Strasbourg, the Region Grand-Est, the European Collectivity of Alsace.
More than 120 speakers will debate “Democracy at risk: how can we revive it?” during 3 days in Strasbourg.
The World Forum for Democracy is a contribution towards a New Democratic Pact for Europe, which is a strategic and political consultation process launched by the Council of Europe to reinforce the foundations of democracy, amplify its benefits, restore trust and innovate its form.
The results of this process will shape the future work of the Council of Europe to make democracy tangible and meaningful for all.
