Sport brings people together. At its best, it contributes to their health and happiness, breaking down barriers and building trust and community spirit. For over five decades, the Council of Europe has advocated fair play and respect in sport, tackling corruption and helping make sport safe, ethical and accessible to all. This work contributes to the creation of inclusive, democratic societies which respect human rights and the rule of law – the Council of Europe’s raison d’être.

Back 3rd International Conference on the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions

Two weeks left before the 3rd International Conference on the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions – Promotion and implementation of the Macolin Convention (CETS n°215), Strasbourg (France), 24-25 September 2018
3rd International Conference on the fight against the manipulation of sports competitions

The Conference is organised as part of the Macolin Roadmap process to strengthen States’ response capacity to specific difficulties they encounter in organising the fight against manipulation of sports competitions. To this end, the Macolin Convention fosters harmonised measures enabling ministries, together with all other public and private stakeholders, to act at three complementary levels ensuring a long-term coherent approach:

  1. Fostering a national integrated approach to dealing with sports manipulations and associated corruptions;
  2. Developing national co-operation networks involving key actors: public authorities (including Ministries and related public agencies, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, judiciary, betting regulatory authorities), sport movement, and betting industry;
  3. Participating in international coordinated mechanisms to protect integrity of sport and combat corruption in sport.

These three levels of actions will be subject of a series of “thematic workshops” involving members of the National Platforms and key national stakeholders. Joint priorities will be identified for implementation as part of the “Macolin Roadmap 2018-2020”.
