Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children

The “Parliamentary Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children” broadens its activities to include the intergovernmental sector, through a joint project with the Children’s Rights Division. The objective of the Parliamentary Campaign is to strengthen the role of national parliaments in protecting and promoting the rights of migrant children in line with international and Council of Europe standards. It also aims at promoting positive and protective alternative practices to immigration detention.

The deliverables of the project include the elaboration of a Guide for monitoring places where children are deprived of liberty in the context of migration and tailored training for parliamentarians and staff of statutory monitoring institutions, such as National Human Rights Institutions, Children’s Commissioners, Ombudspersons for Children etc. These practical tools will contribute to the improvement of their capacity to effectively prevent violations of the rights of children deprived of liberty. Activities organised under this project will also support the migration-related work of the Ad hoc Committee for the Rights of the Child (CAHENF), which oversees the implementation of the Strategy for the Rights of the Child (2016-2021).
