Extra-territorial processing of asylum claims, family reunification and missing children in focus

On 8 December 2017 the Parliamentary Assembly’s Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons met in Paris. The Agenda included, among other topics, the challenges of extra-territorial processing of asylum claims and the human rights impact of the ‘external dimension’ of European Union asylum and migration policy. Other subjects for discussion included family reunification, integration and trafficking of migrants and refugees, as well as the situation in countries neighbouring Syria. In addition, the Committee appointed a rapporteur for a new report on Missing refugee and migrant children in Europe.

On 20 November 2017, in Strasbourg, a training seminar in the framework of the Assembly’s Parliamentary Campaign to End Immigration Detention of Children for visiting places where children are detained took place. Members of parliaments and Children's ombudspersons used the new Guide to study methodology and practical tools for visits and interviews of detained children and detention staff. The training was organised by the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons and the Children's Rights Division, in partnership with Defence for Children Belgium.
