SOGI Unit organises training in Italy, Lithuania and Romania on Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI Persons

The Council of Europe Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity (SOGI) Unit together with the Romanian organization ACCEPT, the Italian network of civil society organizations CILD and the Lithuanian Authorities LGKT, is organising a series of online capacity building trainings on "Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI Persons: training for a professional police response", aiming to strengthen the legal protection and access to remedy of LGBTI persons victims of hate crime. By the end of these online trainings, more than 120 Law enforcement officers will have gained significant knowledge on the topic to act as multipliers on a national level within their countries.

The training is part of the European Commission and Council of Europe ENDSOGIDISC joint project, funded through the European Union's Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme 2014-2020.

 

Training Manual: Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI persons: Training for a Professional Police Response 

SOGI Unit has produced the manual Policing Hate Crime against LGBTI persons: Training for a Professional Police Response intended for police trainers, investigators, managers, hate crime officers and frontline police officers working in countries across the Council of Europe region. Its purpose is to provide assistance, information and the appropriate tools for conducting trainings on hate crime against LGBTI persons. It builds on Council of Europe standards, especially on the European Convention on Human Rights and the relevant case law from the European Court of Human Rights, as well as other international human rights standards and already existing training materials for law enforcement officials. The Manual is also available in BosnianBulgarianGreekPortuguese and Serbian.
