Media are kindly invited to cover and report from the third Steering Committee Meeting of the joint programme of the European Union and Council of Europe “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, that will be held on Monday, 21 March 2022, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Musala 2, Sarajevo.

The meeting will take stock of the achievements of the second phase of the Programme in Bosnia and Herzegovina within three years of its implementation and discuss plans for the upcoming period. Within the Programme worth more than €4 million, the European Union and Council of Europe joined their forces to ensure justice, support education, freedom of expression and freedom of the media and to combat discrimination and protect rights of vulnerable groups in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Press statements will be given at 15:30 in the press corner with addresses by:

  • Josip Brkić, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina
  • Verena Taylor, Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programmes of the Council of Europe
  • Nicolas Bizel, Head of Operations section for Justice and Home Affairs and Public Administration of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina

Participants will include representatives of the beneficiary institutions directly involved in the implementation of the joint programme, such as the Ministries of Justice at the state and entities level, the Institution of Human Rights Ombudspersons, Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH, Ministry of Civil Affairs of BiH, BiH Association of Journalists, Communications Regulatory Agency and representatives of civil society organisations.

The meeting will begin at 15:40 and the media are welcome to cover the opening panel. Simultaneous interpretation will be provided.

The second phase of the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey” programme is funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe in the amount of €41 million. It runs between 2019 and 2022 and builds on the results of the first phase. It will continue to develop important initiatives in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in all the Western Balkans Beneficiaries ensuring justice, combating discrimination and protecting rights of vulnerable groups, ensuring quality education for all, as well as freedom of expression and freedom of the media.
