First online course for legal professionals on freedom of expression, that will be tutored by Council of Europe expert and judge at the Supreme Court of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Svjetlana Milišić Veličkovski, is now available for 15 participants – judges and prosecutors from Bosnia and Herzegovina. The beginning of the implementation of this course, that has been adapted to the local legal context within the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, and its action on “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)”, was officially announced today during the online event, during which all participants have received the necessary information on the technical acpects of the online trainings and got familiar with the HELP programme of the Council of Europe, that offers free online courses for legal professionals on the human rights protection standards.
Online course on freedom of expression was created to help relevant professionals to get a comprehensive overview of European standards concerning freedom of expression, as well as domestic case-law, that would contribute to a more successful and consistent application of Article 10 of ECHR in their daily work.
The idea is that these online courses for legal professionals on freedom of expression become a part of a regular programme of Centres for education of judges and prosecutros from both entities after the finalisation of the project, and become an available resource for additional specialisation of legal professionals who come across the issue of protection of freedom of expression and freedom of the media in their work.
This webinar was organised within the joint European Union/Council of Europe programme “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Turkey 2019-2022”, and its action on “Freedom of expression and freedom of the media in Bosnia and Herzegovina (JUFREX)”, in cooperation with Centre for Judges and Prosecutors of Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Centre for Judges and Prosecutors of Republika Srpska.
