Upcoming Pompidou Group events tailored to provide space for new thinking, sharing ideas and networking

In autumn 2019, the Pompidou Group has organised a series of seminars and conferences as part of its mandate to pursue the implementation of the 2019-2022 Work Programme.
 

25-26 September, Reykjavik, Iceland: seminar ‘Drug Prevention Approaches that Make a Difference’
The first joint interactive seminar co-organised by the Pompidou Group and the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) intends to facilitate the sharing of practices and experiences related to drug prevention. Field visits will help provide hands on illustrations of the Icelandic approach and experience in this domain. The event targets policy managers and practitioners involved in drug and alcohol prevention.

1-3 October, Lisbon, Portugal: meeting of the Expert Group on the Prevention of Drug Precursors’ Diversion
Topics on the agenda during the Pompidou Group’s annual meeting on drug precursors relate to mechanisms for preventing the diversion of chemicals used in the production of drugs through international cooperation, prevention, monitoring, profiling, detection, investigation, and prosecution. The event targets those working in any capacity related to production, trade, legal use of drug precursors, including private sector partners, law enforcement, research partners, academia, international organisations, scientists and competent national authorities.

8-11 October, Athens, Greece: training seminar ‘Responding to Drug-related Challenges for Refugees, Migrants and IDPS’
This capacity building seminar will provide attendees with transcultural/intercultural competencies and provide a platform for exchanging ideas and identifying useful tools to aid screening. The event targets experts and professionals working within areas to do with addiction as well as those working with migrant and refugee populations.

30-31 October, Mexico City, Mexico: conference ‘International cooperation in aligning drug policies with Sustainable Development Goals’
The conference will provide a better understanding of key elements essential to accomplish both SDG’s and Drug Policy’s objective, stimulate discussion, exchange ideas and identify concrete and effective ways to implement international commitments at the national level. The three major areas of focus for this conference will be i) Prevention and early interventions ii) Development, vulnerable groups and communities iii) Justice and humane law enforcement. This event targets representatives from governments, policy managers, experts, civil society working in drug policy area in the Pompidou Group member States and beyond.
