After a series of in-depth trainings for prison staff and civil society representatives between 2015 and 2016 and a simulation of how to run a Therapeutic Community (TC) that took place on 16-18 October 2017 in Pruncul prison in Chisinau, Moldovan specialists are ready to enrol drug dependent prisoners in this new treatment programme. The official launch of the first prison-based Therapeutic Community in Moldova took take place in the morning of 29 November 2017. In the afternoon the same day the Pompidou Group opened the international conference on “Rehabilitative Approaches to Drug Dependent Prisoners”. At the conference delegations from Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Republic of Moldova and Ukraine as well as international experts presented good practices in the prison and criminal justice field. The two events closed the regional project of the Pompidou Group “Criminal Justice Responses to Drug Dependent Prisoners” which is part of the joint European Union – Council of Europe "Partnership for Good Governance (PGG)" programme.
