14th Annual Meeting of the International Network on the Control of Precursors’ Diversion

On 12-13 October 2021, the Secretariat of the Pompidou Group hosted its 14th meeting on the control of drug precursors’ diversion in hybrid format in Strasbourg and online. This expert group offers a multidisciplinary platform for police, customs, relevant international bodies, the private sector and the scientific world to continue the close and excellent co-operation in tackling illicit trafficking and use of drug precursor products and pre-precursors. The overall aim of this meeting is to reduce illicit trafficking and to prevent the abuse of (pre-)precursors through information exchange on new trends, risk assessment, best practices, improved control, risk management, profiling, detection and investigative measures. The focus this year was on precursors legislation, environmental impact of drug production, and on new trends and modus operandi such as MAPA case studies, recent fentanyl precursors and the raise of Delta-8-Tetrahydrocannabinol. The working group brought together more than 90 experts from 33 different countries and 10 international organisations.
