Training Course on Challenging Stereotypes and Identities to promote Gender Equality

For its 4th Edition, the University on Mediterranean on Youth and Global Citizenship that took place in Hammamet, Tunisia was organised under the theme “Connecting Identities”, the North-South Centre organised its second training designed to strengthen women’s rights and gender equality.

19 participants were selected ( 10 females and 9 males) from Algeria, Jordan, Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Mexico, Bosnia, Serbia, Lithuania, Former Yugoslav Republic Of Macedonia, Portugal, Sweden and Greece came together to attend a week long training on sex stereotypes and women identities.

The training aimed to raise awareness regarding harmful stereotypes towards women and share different experiences from both the South and the North of the Mediterranean, with the help of the trainers Lucia Barbieri (Italy), Suha Ismail (I-Dare Jordan) and Tarek Amraoui (France/Morocco).

During the training, participants launched four campaigns in order to combat pre-conceived ideas about gender roles.

Furthermore, following the training, a number of participants expressed an interested in launching their own campaign in their home countries.
