The Prize winners has been publicly announced on the 16 December 2020 during the autumn session of the Conference of INGOs. The prizes consisting of a sum of €3,000 each, aims to recognize, promote and support the work of three initiatives who addressed needs on the ground despite the challenges of the global pandemic.
It is our honour to announce that the three initiatives recognised with the #SolidAction Award are:
In the category of “education and citizens' consciousness”:
National Association of Social workers from Democratic Republic of Congo
The Association works closely with the communities to counter the sensitive situation due to the Covid pandemic, violent enforcement of lockdown measures, and general insecurity and economic stress.
In many areas there are also shortages of water, soap and personal protective equipment, coupled with a large number of people without access to information. The National Association of Social Work works to reach out to all people and explain COVID-19 symptoms as well as preventive measures. They also compiled a list of people aged 60 and over and those with diabetes, because they are more at risk from the virus and they wish to give them attention while providing assistance. With the aim to link the ground with access to information, they have distributed an infographic on health education, and provided psychosocial education to help people cope with the restrictions of lockdown and to stay safe.
In the category of “addressing vulnerabilities through intersectionality”:
Watchman Relief Association Global from Cameroon
WRAG is a non-profit organization in the field of humanitarian and peace building that works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners. WRAG promotes cooperation, works to help and support the less privileged, assists in the search for pragmatic solutions to problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to societies in need, including internally displaced people. Watchman Relief Association Global is connecting people, encouraging mutual support, access to formal education and valorising entrepreneurship for more creativity, innovation and autonomy.
In the category of “intergenerational dialogue and environment”:
Opcions de Consum Responsable SCCL from Spain
Opcionns de Consum Responsable is supporting two strategic sectors for the future: on the one hand, the agro-ecological farming of the country, and on the other, the promotion of the responsible consumption and a Social and Solidarity Economy.
They create inter-cooperation platforms which aim to promote access to information on various options for conscious and transformative consumption of goods and services, promoting the existence and strengthening of the social market.
The #Solidaction Prizes are the final step of the #Solidaction Campaign of the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe who, since April, has put the focus on:
