Call for activities for the 19th University on Youth and Development (UYD)

The North-South Centre of the Council of Europe has opened a call for proposals to integrate activities within the 19th edition of the University on Youth and Development (UYD) that will take place in Mollina, Spain, from the 10-14 September 2018.

The call is open for organisations and institutions operating at local, national, regional and international level for them to have space to run their own activities (training, seminar, working groups, etc...) within the UYD, a multilateral cooperation framework which encourages networking, peer education and sharing of knowledge and opportunities.

The University on Youth and Development (UYD)

The University on Youth and Development (UYD) is an activity facilitated and coordinated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe in partnership with the Spanish Institute for Youth (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and other international youth organisations and youth serving organisations.

Since the year 2000, the UYD is a space to explore the concept of global development education and global citizenship, to encourage dialogue between decision makers and young people, to advocate for youth participation and to empower young people towards their rights and duties.

For more information please consult the report of the 17th edition of the UYD

Every year the Network of Universities on Youth and Global Citizenship, that integrates the UYD, agrees on a thematic annual overarching priority which represents the thread that connects all the activities taking place in the framework of the universities of the same year.

A common theme for 2018-2020: peace, justice and strong institutions

For the period 2018-2020, in an attempt to reinforce the sustainability and continuity of its work, the Network agreed on a three-year long cycle under an umbrella theme: the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16: “peace, justice and strong institutions”.

Each year the umbrella theme will be broken down into specific annual focuses which represent different but complementary elements of the broader overarching theme. The annual focuses of all the universities promoted by the Network in the same year are:

2018: Promote peaceful and inclusive societies.

2019: Access to justice for all.

2020: Build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions.

Application process for organisations

For the year 2018, all the activities organized within the UYD should be connected to the umbrella theme and should shave a focus on “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies”.

Any organisation interested in proposing an activity for the UYD, should fill the activity proposal form after having carefully read the concept note and the call for activities.

The activity proposal form should be filled by 8 July 2018.
