The in-service training programme under the SIAC project (Supporting the Individual Application to the Constitutional Court in Turkey) was launched this week with a first training seminar, which took place in Ankara from 16 to 18 October in the presence of Mr Yılmaz Akçil, President of the Justice Academy of Turkey, other representatives of the training institution, as well as 12 facilitator judges and prosecutors who were trained during the first phase of the project.

The programme aims to increase the knowledge of 3,000 first instance judges and prosecutors about the individual application, and to strengthen their capacity to identify violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.

This first workshop was the occasion for 93 judges and prosecutors from various cities of Turkey to learn more about key aspects of human rights’ protection, including:

  • The right to life and the prohibition of torture;
  • The right to liberty and security;
  • The right to a fair trial;
  • The right to property;
  • The right to respect for private life and family life;
  • Freedom of religion and conscience / expression / assembly and organisation;
