Back Enhanced capacity of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia on Articles 3 and 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights

The Council of Europe provides further support to the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, in particular its Department for Relations with the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR), to strengthen its capacity to apply European human rights standards at the national level. Following a first international conference on European human rights standards and the role of the government representative in safeguarding effective protection of human rights that was jointly organised on 15 December 2014, with the participation of the Government agents from Armenia, the Czech Republic and the Russian Federation, as well as Council of Europe’s representatives, a two-day workshop on Articles 3 and 5 of the European Convention on Human Rights is organised in Aghveran for a group of 25 participants from the Ministry of Justice, Judicial Department and Justice Academy. Specific aspects of the deprivation of liberty as well as procedural aspects will be dealt with, with a focus on the most relevant ECtHR case law, through case studies developed by international Council of Europe’s consultants.  These activities are organised within the framework of the Project on “Strengthening the Application of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Case Law of the European Court of Human Rights in Armenia”, implemented by the Council of Europe and funded by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It aims at strengthening the implementation of European human rights standards in Armenia. In addition to the strengthening of the capacity of the Ministry of Justice and the Justice Academy, support is provided to the Court of Cassation.
