Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women visits Poland

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Poland from 28 September to 2 October 2020. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Poland of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

Meetings will be held with representatives from different ministries and public entities including the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy, the Monitoring Team for Combating Family Violence, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Health, the National Agency for the Resolution of Alcohol Problems, the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the Ministry of National Education, the National Broadcasting Council and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, as well as the regional authorities. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of civil society such as specialist service providers, academics and NGOs working in the area of violence against women, including those with a focus on women asylum seekers, women with disabilities, and other women at risks of intersectional discrimination.

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation report during 2021.
