Council of Europe’s expert group on violence against women visits Bosnia and Herzegovina

A delegation of the Council of Europe's Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (GREVIO) will carry out an evaluation visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina from 6 to 14 October 2021. This visit is one of the steps in the procedure to monitor the implementation by Bosnia and Herzegovina of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).

 

The Istanbul Convention is based on the understanding that states must fully address gender-based violence in all its forms and take measures to prevent such violence, protect the victims and prosecute the perpetrators.

 

Meetings will be held with representatives from different Ministries, including the authorities at the state, entity and district levels such as Ministry for Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the state and entity Gender Agencies, the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council, the state and entity Ministries of Justice, the Ministry of Security Bosnia and Herzegovina, the state, entity and district Prosecutor’s Offices, the Communication Regulatory Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the state and entity Agencies for Statistics, as well as with Magistrates of the Civil and Criminal Courts. In addition, the GREVIO delegation will meet with representatives of civil society and NGOs working in the area of violence against women, including those with a specific focus on migrant women.

 

GREVIO plans to publish its evaluation in the course of 2022.
