Back Barcelona celebrates the International Mother Language Day

A day devoted to reflection on identity through our languages
Barcelona celebrates the International Mother Language Day

On Thursday, 22 February the citizens of Barcelona will enjoy a full day of experiences through diverse languages.

In the framework of the International Mother Language Day, Barcelona has organised a whole day to hear the voices of people from diverse cultural background, who will share their experiences with practicing their native tongues in a context such as Catalonia.

Acknowledging all languages is important to respect and value all the different views of the world. Also, languages are a source of identity that must be preserved, as a heritage common to all human beings.

Among the languages to be showcased on 22 February there will be Bengali, Romani or Galician, and participants will analyse the role that their speakers play in contributing to the local society. Furthermore, there will be a space for dialogue with Mr Luis Carcamo Hueschante, Professor at the University of Austin (Texas), specialised in literature and indigenous cultures and writer of many essays on colonialism and resistance of the Mapuche people. The session will be presented by Rita Marzoa, journalist.
