The Council of Europe will present on 9 December 2015 the results of the Sociological Survey on Attitudes towards Mental Health Problems in Georgia and the Strategy and Communication Plan for Raising Awareness on Mental Health Issues.

The survey, the strategy and the communication plan were produced by the Council of Europe experts in the framework of the European Union and the Council of Europe joint project “Human Rights in Prisons and Other Closed Institutions”.

Nationwide survey provided quantitative and qualitative information on fears, attitudes and the levels of acceptance and tolerance of population towards people with mental disabilities. The results of the survey served as bases for designing the strategic documents which should guide the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs to raise awareness of the general public on mental health issues and dispel delusions and prejudice around the issue.

Mr Cristian Urse, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Georgia, and Mr Zaza Sopromadze, Deputy Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs, will introduce the presentation, which will be joined by representatives of NGOs and other public institutions.
