COMPASS national training course in Bosnia and Herzegovina

A COMPASS national training course on human rights education with young people in Bosnia and Herzegovina "Gender Equality - Equal Society" took place in Trebinje between 7-10 July 2020.

The course was co-organised by the Trade Union Education Centre from Banja Luka and the Youth Department of the Council of Europe with an emphasis on empowering twenty-four young women who are trade union activists.

The training course helped the trade union representatives to their improve knowledge and skills related to human rights and gender equality, thus building their capacities to become multipliers and peer educators in their unions.

During the opening ceremony, participants had the opportunity to learn more on the Council of Europe itself and its work related to gender equality through presentation and discussion with Mrs. Bojana Urumova, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo.

In the programme of the course, similar to other national and regional trainings in 2020, there was a strong focus on introducing the COMPASS - Manual for Human Rights Education with Young People, which over the years has been the most important resource of activities in the field of non-formal education with young people of the Council of Europe.
The 2nd edition of the Gender Matters manual on gender based violence was also used and promoted as a useful educational tool and resource for participants.

As a result of the course, participants are expected to transfer their newly acquired knowledge within their trade union organizations, and then in wider communities by advocating for human rights, inclusive societies and gender equality.
