During her first official visit to Israel from 6 to 9 July, the Deputy Secretary General opened a seminar on Council of Europe conventions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

As part of the joint Council of Europe-EU South Programme, the seminar presents Council of Europe conventions in various fields, including human trafficking, children’s rights, violence against women, adoption and contact with children, corruption, personal data protection, medicrime, money laundering and terrorism – with a view to possible signature and ratification by Israel of these conventions.

Bilateral meetings are planned with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzachi Hanegbi and other senior Israeli officials.

In addition to visiting Yad Vashem and Haifa – which became the first city in the Middle East to join the Council of Europe’s intercultural cities network – the Deputy Secretary General also chaired an international teachers conference.
