On 31 July 2020 the second group of 20 Armenian legal professionals, ten prosecutors and ten investigators, are following the HELP online course on Prohibition of ill-treatment.

This HELP course aims at assisting legal professionals in properly applying the standards concerning the prevention and effective investigation of ill-treatment cases. Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights prohibits in absolute terms torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment.

The course is focused on law-enforcement, criminal justice and related areas and was designed to enable legal professionals to understand and apply European and universal human rights law framework on the prohibition of ill-treatment.

The participants to this second course edition will study the course for six weeks; successful graduates will receive certificates from the Council of Europe and the Justice Academy of Armenia

In 2018 the course was translated, adapted to the Armenian legal context and launched by the Council of Europe in cooperation with the Academy of Justice within the framework of the Project “Supporting the criminal justice reform and combating ill-treatment and impunity in Armenia” funded through the European Union and Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance for 2015-2018.

The second edition of this course is organised within the framework of the Project “Supporting the criminal justice reform and harmonising the application of the European standards”, which is part of the European Union and Council of Europe Partnership for Good Governance for 2019-2021.
