Executive training session on Enhancing Public (Financial) Governance and Management in European Cities

The Council of Europe (Centre of Expertise for Local Government Reform) has organized a high-level executive training on Enhancing Public (Financial) Governance and Management in European Cities on 7-8 December 2016 in Tbilisi, Georgia. The training has been delivered by European Institute of Public Administration (EIPA) – EIPA Barcelona and was addressed to mayors, senior local public officials and representatives of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia. About 20 local participants have been presented with a sound overview of the Politics and Management Deal approach and methodology supported by hands-on practices and stewardship from the different European city cultures.

Participants have been provided with the knowledge and capacities to design public strategies, align them with political priorities as well as to embed them to the available financial resources (budgets) which improve transparency, accountability and intergenerational equity. A special session has been dedicated to access to European Union funds and its financial regulations.

Topics of the training proved out to be of great interest for participants and there was a request for next training session designed for LSG specialists dealing with financial issues.

The event was organized as a part of the Programme "Strengthening institutional frameworks for local governance in the Eastern Partnership countries" under the Programmatic Cooperation Framework (PCF) for 2015-2017 funded by the European Union and co-funded by the Council of Europe.
