Good Governance Project in Greece: Final Conference

The Joint Council of Europe - European Union Project “Delivering Good Governance in Greece” will come to an end on 30 May 2021. A final conference will be organised on 10 May, online, to present the main outcomes to the stakeholders.

The project was launched in 2019 by the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance and, in spite of the restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, all planned activities were completed and some important results were achieved.

The project aimed at strengthening Inter-Municipal Cooperation (IMC) in the country. In particular, 12 municipalities were supported in establishing two pilot IMC agreements. Furthermore, a Handbook on Inter-Municipal Cooperation in Greece was prepared, combining theoretical aspects with a practical focus on the Greek context, including a detailed description of the relevant legal framework, templates and step-by-step guidelines. The Centre of Expertise also conducted a Study on the participation of women in political life at the local level, analysing whether it could be boosted by IMC tools. In addition, 16 local trainers were trained on the Leadership Academy Programme’s methodology, with a specific focus on the modules most relevant to Inter-Municipal Cooperation.

The closing conference will be opened by the Minister of Interior, Makis Voridis; the Secretary General for Interior and Organisation, Michalis Stavrianoudakis; the Governor of the National Transparency Authority, Angelos Binis; the President of the National Center of Public Administration and Local Government, Paraskevi Dramalioti; the Deputy Head of the Governance and Public Administration Unit from the European Commission - DG REFORM, Sébastien Renaud; and the Director of Human Dignity, Equality and Governance of the Council of Europe, Claudia Luciani.

The conference can be followed on Zoom or YouTube.
