Establishing a best practice programme in Turkey

Municipalities in Turkey can learn from one another on a variety of different topics of relevance to local governance. This is the spirit behind the Union of Turkish Municipalities' intention to set up a best practice programme in line with Council of Europe standards.

To this end, on 24 July 2020 the Centre of Expertise for Good Governance, in collaboration with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, organised an introductory workshop and discussion with the Union of Turkish Municipalities to discuss the main principles of such a programme and the next steps necessary to plan and launch it.

The Centre of Expertise will continue to provide expert support to the Union in the coming months, with the goal of establishing a recurring and sustainable best practice programme in Turkey, so that municipalities will be better able to share, and replicate, successful solutions and approaches.
