Training on freedom of expression and freedom of the media for judges and prosecutors

Under the joint EU/CoE programme “Reinforcing Judicial Expertise on Freedom of expression and the media in South-East Europe (JUFREX)”, the Center for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution has organized Training for judges and prosecutors on freedom of expression and the media held on 29-30 November 2018, in Budva. This was the eighth two-day seminar organized within the framework of JUFREX with in total 178 representatives of the judiciary and prosecution trained in the framework of this program in Montenegro.

Under the joint action, prior to trainings organized at national level, the Council of Europe and the Center for Training in Judiciary and State Prosecution have successfully created the syllabus for the training in the area of freedom of expression and freedom of the media, developed relating training materials and trained national judges and prosecutors to become trainers, in order to pass gained knowledge and expertise on freedom of expression to their peers through follow-up, cascade trainings.

The purpose of the curriculum on Freedom of Expression is to enhance the awareness of legal professionals about the importance of freedom of expression and the media. Furthermore, it aims to enhance the interpretation of the national legislation relating directly and indirectly to freedom of expression in accordance to the European standards, as well as to enhance the application of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) case-law in the field of freedom of expression in their daily work.
