Seminar on strengthening the protection of social rights in Europe – the role of the European Social Charter

What is the role of the European Social Charter in strengthening the protection of social rights in Europe? This issue was discussed at a seminar, organised by the Department of Social Rights on 8 December 2022 to mark the end of mandate of several members of the European Committee of Social Rights.

Discussions in the first panel reflected on the current negotiations around the reform of the Charter machinery, as well as on the opportunities and challenges around social rights protection in Europe. The second panel focused on the role of the Charter in respect of the future of work and workers’ rights, in particular workers in atypical forms of employment.

The event took place in hybrid format in Strasbourg, France and was livestreamed. The working languages were English and French, and simultaneous interpretation was provided.
