ECRI participates at the 3rd meeting of the Council of Europe’s intergovernmental anti-discrimination committee

Jean-Paul Lehners, ECRI Representative to the Council of Europe's intergovernmental Steering Committee on Anti-Discrimination, Diversity, and Inclusion (CDADI) and Michael Farrell, Vice-Chair of ECRI, have participated in the 3rd plenary meeting of the CDADI that took place from 15 to 17 June 2021. The CDADI examined in particular the work of the Expert Committee on Combating Hate Speech (ADI/MSI-DIS), the Committee of Experts on Roma and Traveller Issues (ADI-ROM) and the Working Group on Intercultural Integration (GT-ADI-INT).

During an exchange of views on combating hate speech, Jean-Paul Lehners explained ECRI’s policy as regards the use of the term "race" in its general policy recommendations, including ECRI’s General Policy Recommendation No. 15 on Combating Hate Speech.

Michael Farrell, who is also Chair of ECRI’s Task Force on LGBTI issues, provided an overview of the various recommendations made by ECRI in recent years on LGBTI issues, which have notably been summarised in a Factsheet on LGBTI issues, and thus contributed to the discussion on the further implementation review of Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)5 of the Committee of Ministers to member states on measures to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity.
