ECRI held its 88th plenary meeting in Strasbourg and online, which took place from 29 March to 1 April 2022.

Upon the proposal of the Bureau, ECRI held a debate on the consequences of the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, with the remote participation of its Ukrainian member, Volodymyr Kulyk, from Kyiv. It subsequently adopted a statement on the matter. The text of the statement is available here.

As regards its country monitoring work (sixth cycle), ECRI reviewed its preliminary draft reports on Bulgaria, France and Greece and adopted its reports on Denmark, Estonia and Monaco.

ECRI also adopted its annual report on its activities for 2021.

In the course of the meeting, representatives of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) made a presentation of the EHRC’s “human rights tracker”, which is an online tool aimed at helping to track how well the Governments of the United Kingdom and Wales are putting their human rights obligations into practice.

ECRI members were also provided with training on issues related to artificial intelligence and the risks of discrimination and on human rights messaging. They also appointed Renee Laiviera, member in respect of Malta, and Michal Vašečka, member in respect of the Slovak Republic, as new Gender Equality Rapporteurs.
