On 21 August, the European Association for International Education published the laureates of its 2019 Prizes.
The Award for Vision and Leadership goes to the Head of the Council of Europe’s Education Department, Sjur Bergan, for his work on developing the European Higher Education Area, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, the Lisbon Recognition Convention, and the European Qualifications Passport for Refugees. EAIE also underlines the Council of Europe’s efforts to have structural reforms reflect core higher education values of inclusion and academic freedom. In a comment, Sjur Bergan expresses his gratitude for this award, which he sees as important recognition of “all the work we have done in the Council of Europe Education Department over these years”.
