A consultation meeting, following the dissemination phase of the Council of Europe toolkit "Language support for adult refugees" carried out in the framework of the call for proposal LIAM/2018, took place in Rome, Italy, from the 3rd to the 4th December 2018 with the participation of the selected European NGOs from several member states such as Greece, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Belgium, Albania, Serbia, as well as local NGOs active in the reception and support of refugees and migrants.
The meeting provided an opportunity for the NGOs to present their diverse dissemination work and activities at local, regional and national level, to discuss ‘success stories’ and lessons learnt and to share insights and recommendations regarding the adaptability of the Toolkit to the needs of the NGOs and their volunteers who provide language support to refugees and migrants.
The recommendations will help to better prepare for the next phase of the dissemination work, analyse the needs for updating the existing tools and elaborating new ones as well as to determine the feasibility of developing a toolkit for providing language support to a younger age group of refugees and migrants.
The Toolkit, available 7 languages (www.coe.int/lang-refugees), has been developed by the Education Policy Division as part of its project "Linguistic Integration of Adult Migrants” (LIAM).
